No matter where in the world you would like to teach after
completing your TEFL/TESOL course, there will be certain requirements that
you will need to meet in order to work as an English teacher. These
requirements usually involve qualifications, visa regulations,
experience or whether you are a native or non-native English speaker.
around Asia differ a lot in what is required of English teachers wanting to
work there. The infographic below aims to highlight the main requirements for
the most popular EFL destinations in the region.

In general, a TEFL or TESOL certificate of at least 120 hours is a minimum
requirement for the countries on our list. You will also need a degree if you
are planning to work in South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan,
Malaysia, or Laos
but it is not always necessary if you want to work
in China, Cambodia or Indonesia. It's also important to know
that most countries require teachers to have a work visa that is applied for
either before or after arrival.

As with the majority of countries around the world, no previous
teaching experience is necessary
for jobs around Asia but candidates
with experience are highly preferred. Asia also offers some of the best
salaries for English teachers
in the TEFL/TESOL world, making it
easy to save a large portion of a monthly teacher's salary due to the low
cost of living
in the majority of countries.

Jobs in most countries on the list are open to fluent non-native speakers of
English; however, the regulations in South Korea and Japan only
allow their English teachers to be native speakers. China's
employment visa regulations mean that you need to be between the ages
of 24 and 55
to be able to work there and anyone wishing to work in
South Korea will need to submit a criminal background check.
